IEC

  • All entities that are either importing goods into India or are exporting goods out of Indiaare required to obtain Import Export code.
  • Application of IEC is required to be made with DGFT along with required forms and documents.
  • It normally takes 15 to 20 working days to get IEC number allotted.
  • IEC issued is valid for all the branches or factories of the importer/exporter mentioned in the certificate
  • Any additional place of business that needs IEC registration will need amendment of certificate and addition of such place in the same.
  • An important aspect is that the Permanent Account Number (PAN) and a certificate from company's bankers is a pre-requisite for grant of an IEC. Only one IEC can be issued against a single PAN.
